Johann Chris Ragg, MD
My specialization is on diagnostic, preventive and interventional phlebology.
I was born in 1957 in Bad Wildungen/Germany, wherein "Bad" ("bath") means a place with wells of healthy mineral water. There were lots of hospitals and sanatoria, and in my fathers house some stories were rented to local physicians. So I grew up with medicine all around me.
Nevertheless, I first studied science (physics, biophysics, laser physics, environmental matters) in Hannover, but then turned to medicine (Marburg, Berlin) and finished in 1990. Due to my double qualification I was employed at the famous Charité university clinic as a resident and scientific assistant in cardiology, angiolgy and interventional radiology. I refused to a postdoctoral university career to found a first interdisciplinary vascular center (2000) and then a larger institution (2003) which later on became angioclinic® vein centers Berlin. It´s the most specialized institution for endovenous therapy in Europe.
If you read this so far, I guess it´s because you are interested in qualified venous treatment. For me, research and vein treatment has always been thrilling as so many improvements can be achieved by today´s technical means. No pain, no recovery period, not even traces of a treatment, lasting patient satisfaction, that´s totally different from the era of surgery. We can prove that visible varicose veins are 100% preventable. Meanwhile, there are more than 250.000 vascular ultrasound examinations and above 100.000 catheter-based interventions listed in my files. But still I am emotional in every treatment of a vein as it was my own one.
Some of my recent scientific and product enigeering work is listed on www.venartis.org.
